On Prisoners, Torture, and Apologies:

My dear friend Cinnabari summed up the whole situation with a very eloquent description:

The whole thing blows goats.

I could leave it at that, but what fun would that be?

First off we need to clarify the definitions of some words that have been thrown around by a very high strung and misguided press corps:

These people are in prison. They are there because they were most likely apprehended attempting to do harm to US military or other coalition people, personnel, vehicles, or other important parts of the forces attempting to bring order to Iraq. They are not innocent bystanders caught up in the crossfire. It would do well for the left bent press to report this very important detail.

These people have not been tortured. I do not in any way, shape, manner, or form condone the acts of seven US servicemen and women. The visual records of their acts speak for themselves. Never the less, the pictures are evidence of, at best, mistreatment of prisoners – not, I repeat, not of torture. If you are naïve enough to require a definition of torture, check out the History Channel for documentary evidence of torture under Hitler, Mussolini, Tojo, and last but not least, Saddam.

To put it bluntly, if these prisoners are made to be uncomfortable, so be it. Interrogation is not what it is made out to be on Law & Order. These prisoners have information, and it is the job of their captors to get it out of them. Such interrogation tactics as sleep depravation, blaring of hard rock music, and intense questioning have been branded as inhumane and illegal. Again, I say, so be it. I am not concerned with their comfort level.

From “Perky” Katie Couric’s attempted whacking of Rummy this morning on the Today Show (she actually did ask him if he had considered resigning in the wake of the prisoner story) to Hillary “We are the President” Clinton’s allegation that the scandal “goes all the way up the chain of command”, it is clear what the left bent people want. They want an apology. They were not satisfied with W’s appearance on Arab TV (a mistake if you ask me) where he denounced the prisoner abuse. They want an apology. What for? Pick an issue. Iraq, Afghanistan, Tax Cuts, you name it. Mostly, they want W and his crew to apologize for their very existence.

What Hillary and company need to realize is that you can only apologize for that which you have personally done wrong. Proxy apologies aren’t worth the airspace they take up because they are largely ceremonial. Reasonable people understand this. Nobody ever accused Hillary and company of being reasonable.

Left bent politicians and their willing accomplices in the press have been tireless in their attempts to wring an apology out of W and his crew. They took at least six shots at this issue in the press conference, now they’re continuing the process. Thankfully W knows better than to take advice from rabidly left leaning politicians and their press corps.

The bottom line, dear readers, is that Hillary, Lurch and company are very aware of the fact they have very little to do with much that matters in America today. That is what drives them nuts – and what makes them so damn entertaining.

Here endeth the lesson.
