On Howie’s Latest Lunacy:
Howie spouted off in the Washington Post yesterday with a litany of lunacy that makes even me shake my head. Keep talking, Howie. You’re making this too easy.
Howie’s biggest complaint with W, at least in this latest breath, has to do with the fact that the United States has failed to gain world support for the ongoing war on terrorism. Howie’s rant continues to state that
“From its derisive treatment of allies to its rejection of important global agreements, this administration has favored a go-it-alone approach and a determination to use force as its weapon of first resort. Its approach has alienated friends and bolstered foes. Its agenda isolates the United States, placing responsibility for all the world's problems in our hands, and runs counter to America's traditions as a republic.”
Howie obviously doesn’t read this blog. Then again, I don’t put forth drivel accusing W of having prior knowledge of the events of September 11th. Never the less, I’ll offer some advice to the Dean campaign as it continues to hang itself with a rope of its own weaving.
Consensus, according to Lady Margaret Thatcher, is the absence of leadership. Wars cannot be fought, let alone won, by consensus. If you had been someplace other than skiing drunk in Aspen during the Vietnam War, you would know that, Howie. You’re running for President, so let me impart some wisdom to you regarding the duties of the office you so rabidly seek.
Before he enter on the Execution of his Office, he shall take the following Oath or Affirmation:--"I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my Ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States." – United States Constitution, Article II, Section 1, Clause 8.
That’s the oath you take before you sit in the chair, Howie. You’ll note that the oath does not mention “consult with France, Germany, Russia, or Senegal.” It does not require an imminent threat to exist prior to the use of force against a known enemy with hostile intentions. It requires the President, to the best of his ability, to protect and defend the United States. Period. No negotiation, equivocation, or appeasement.
We have a global war on terrorism, Howie. Its made up of nations who aren’t willing to wait until the other shoe drops. Its made up of people that have had enough of terrorists running free. The only nations who see this as a war on Islam are those nations and people supporting and harboring extremists bent on mass murder. Are Syria, Iran, North Korea, The Sudan, and Lebanon afraid they’re next on the list? If so, their fear is well placed.
This war is about global leadership, Howie. While you’re busy ranting about the need to fight terrorism, protect the homeland, and rebuild the national economy, guys like W are out there getting it done.
People accuse you of being out of the mainstream. If I were you, I'd listen to them.
Here endeth the lesson.
